18th Preveza Jazz Festival


Founded in 2003, Preveza Jazz Festival promotes Greek and foreign emerging and established Jazz bands in open-air public spaces in the city. Preveza (15th-16 August 2020).

Preveza Jazz Festival now it’s in 18th edition presents jazz musicians and groups from all over Europe in cooperation with their embassies in Greece. Its aim is to present high quality jazz music from all over the world in a public space -at the port of Preveza with the sea and the port on the background- and to organise educational workshops for young people on jazz music. The festival has also presented big names such as Buena Vista Social Club, Eric Burdon, Cristina Villalonga, Goran Bregovic, Stranglers, Dr. Feelgood, Wim Mertens, Nouvelle Vague, Cristina Branco, Marjorie Barnes, Maria Joao, Ramon Valle, Jef Neve, Benni Chawes , Veronica Mortensen Stephan Micus, Yuri Honing, Monophonics, Katerine Duska, Marina Satti and others.|

The Municipal Conservatory of Preveza and the Music School participate regularly presenting promising young musicians and groups. It has a great impact on young people who have the opportunity to participate next to professional musicians and bands coming from all over the world.

Preveza Jazz Festival has launched in 2018 its educational workshops with the exclusive grant of Stavros Niarchos Foundation.

The workshop is called Jazz Now! and it's a 2day introductory program for young musicians with concerts, jam sessions and workshops for all instruments from the staff of the Ionian University, comprised with renowned musicians such as Dimos Dimitriades, Giorgos Kotrafouris, Stefanos Andreadis, Bill Podaras, Terry Vakirtzoglou and Dinos Manos.

Preveza Jazz Festival is held under the auspices of the Regional Unit of Preveza, the Municipality of Preveza, who supports it as an important cultural institution that unites the diverse musical traditions of European countries and which can be a powerful attraction for cultural tourism in the region.

Stavros Niarchos Foundation is the Major Donor of Preveza Jazz Festival for two consecutive years 2018-2019. The donation concerns the creation of a significant change in the promotion of the modern jazz scene in the wider area of Preveza, as well as the initiation of educational workshops. In this context, JAZZ NOW organizes for the second year! a two-day meeting with jazz music for young musicians with concerts, jam sessions and workshops for all instruments by the professors and lecturers of the Ionian University, coordinated by Dimos Dimitriadis.
