26th Kalamata Dance Festival

With 21 Greek and foreign productions, adapted to the current situation and therefore held only in open spaces, the Kalamata Dance Festival will take place this year on 21-30 August.

International personalities, important Greek artists, many different types of contemporary dance, and a strong educational programme for professionals take centre stage in the 26th Kalamata Dance Festival, which happens again this year despite the most difficult circumstances it has had to face in its 26 years of existence.

More specifically, the 26th Kalamata Dance Festival’s programme includes:9 main performances, of which 4 will be presented at the Kalamata Castle Amphitheatre and 5 in a new venue, currently being prepared in collaboration with the Municipality of Kalamata, 12 outdoor performances in Kalamata’s main square, with free admission, one outdoor performance at Costa Navarino, and one on the city’s seafront and an educational programme with three professional seminars, one masterclass, and one lecture (the latter open to the public).

This year’s Festival’s main focus is the modern human’s relationship to Nature and Need. In the midst of a wider historical context, not just the pandemic, it is important for the spectators to see and feel what dance has to tell us.
