Olympus Marathon 2018

Mount Olympus, Greece’s highest mountain at 2.918m and home of the twelve Olympian Gods according to Greek mythology, is hosting the 15th edition of the popular international mountain running event “Olympus Marathon” that will take place on 21-24 June, 2018.

“Olympus Marathon, Running with the Gods” is one of the biggest mountain races held annually in Greece offering participating athletes and mountain runners from all over the world the opportunity to test their endurance and stamina in a demanding terrain while taking in the striking beauty and rugged landscapes of Mt Olympus; one of Greece’s most beautiful National Parks as well as an UNESCO listed “Biosphere Reserve”.

This high altitude endurance race features 3 different routes; Olympus Marathon, Olympus Ultra and Olympus Vertical. The first two races start early in the morning at the renowned archaeological site of Dion - just above sea level - and continue up to 2.800m right below “Zeus’ throne”, one of the mountain’s highest and steepest peaks, before descending back down to reach the finish line at the picturesque town of Litochoro. Olympus Marathon participants are rewarded with breathtaking views throughout this challenging but truly rewarding mountain trail that winds through the eastern side of Mt Olympus.
